Mets' pitchers and catchers report.

A fellow Franciscan Mets fan? Ah.

Another baseball note.

I also like the Red Sox. During a pro-life march here last year I noticed a number of the marchers sporting Red Sox and Yankee logos on shirts, jackets, caps. I counted. The Red Sox outnumbered the Yankees 2-1. I joked that Red Sox fans were twice as likely to be pro-life than Yankee fans!

They don't call the Yankees the Evil Empire for nothin'...

Franciscan, eh? What brand of the feuding Franciscan family?

You are indeed a man of faith to believe that the Mets will avoid an August implosion. But, as the late Bart Giamatti wrote about our beloved game: "It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops."
