I understand Friedman's desire to stop be so interventionist, but at the same time, those Asian countries he mentions don't give a crap about any other country than their own. China couldn't care less what the Sudanese do in their own country. And while we didn't care what happened in Afghanistan before 9/11, isn't there a humanitiarian reason to be there? Who is going to stand up to radical Islam? I'm not saying the anwer is pure military, because it is not. Extreme poverty needs to be fixed, and the answer is not ignoring the world.
