An Interesting Thought Experiment

In a maxim appearing more and more frequently, Daniel Patrick Moynihan suggested that "Each person has a right to his own opinion, but not to his own version of the facts."  Or something very close to that.

If one flips open the op-ed section of the Times today you will find two men who I consider to be intelligent and insightful with vastly different opinions, and perhaps different versions of the facts.  Can they be reconciled?  I'm not sure.  See for yourself.

There is no silver lining to the war in Afghanistan, and its toll — in dollars and in lives — is growing.
Now surely, one of the above cited articles is about Iraq and another is about Afghanistan.  I understand that.  Yet, the premises upon which these two articles are based register so vastly different.  Both worth reading and then worth reflecting upon: on whose side do you fall?
