Life and Death in Brooklyn

I've been in regular correspondence with the pastor for whom I worked in East New York.  I asked him how things are going there and he responded that he had recently buried a 19-year old from his parish; soon after another young man was killed in retaliation and buried out of the parish in which I lived.

This is the man's life.  He moves from crisis to crisis at a chronically underfunded and overworked parish, burying the children of his parishioners.  And yet, he endures for the love of the people and his love of Christ.

I want to be like Frank Shannon one day.
