After attending Handel's Messiah ...

a question is on my mind: are things True because they are Beautiful, or does something being Beautiful make it true?

Discuss.

^Why do you say so?

In the very least I think something True must be--by its nature--Beautiful; not decided if the converse is necessarily the case...

I say so because what if the truth is a bad truth? And beauty can be deceiving; because something is beautiful doesn't automatically make it true in my estimation.

Is there a difference between bad truths and Truth?

Or something that is truly beautiful, cannot deceive. That is part of the stunning intricacy of beauty.

Maybe.

No, truth is truth. It's just our preception as to whether it is good or bad. I guess if something is TRULY beautiful, then you're right, it cannot deceive. I had in mind a phony Marian apparition. It may be beautiful, but it could be deceiving. However, that obviously is not TRUE beauty.

Put in that way, I think you're absolutely correct.

For instance, Jimmy Rollins signing a six-year contract might seem beautiful, but it would be a disaster.

actually, I would say it is as disaster, too. Just like Ryan Howard's and Papelbon's contracts will be as well.
