I was just thinking how my question to you about Newt Gingrich's conversion to Catholicism on this blog months ago is suddenly more relevant. Sort of.

Refresh my memory of your question and my response.

I asked whether you thought it was a good thing that Gingrich converted to Catholicism (being a controversial figure). You said something to the effect that it is never a bad thing when someone converts (I believe you put it more colorfully) but then you said something else which I can't remember.

Yes, the Gingrich question is relevant again. Though, I'm with Nate Silver of the NYT on this one: there is absolutely no way that Newt gets the nomination. The establishment will not allow it. As (I think it was) Silver put it: the Romney camp has a very, very thick oppo folder on Gingrich.

As for his conversion: I repeat what I had said: it is never a bad thing.

The question of whether the way Newt's public life reflects on the faith is open, as it is for everyone's public life, to interpretation.
