Doing My Job

Last night, a self-identified agnostic made a point of thanking me for my service to God and the Church as a friar.  I've always made a practice of thanking servicemen and women in uniform for their service, and I've heard of priests and religious receiving similar thanks.  This was, however, the first time that I received such words of encouragement.

I don't know what to say, really.  But, as usual, a baseball metaphor will serve.  (Thanks, John McCutcheon.) (And for that matter, thanks Mom and Dad for teaching me to do my job.)

Amazing what a simple "thank you" can do, isn't it?
