Pope Francis' Verbal Communication

During my homily this evening, I found myself ad-libbing regarding Pope Francis' ministry thus far.

I made the connection between the examples provides by friars in the missions that were essentially non-verbal and those of Francis.

More specifically: the friars regularly mangled the native languages and yet received the love of those to whom they went to minister.  In a not altogether different manner, this Pope has won the hearts of many, without:

- speaking a word of English...
- or French...
- or German...

Actions, do seem, in fact, to speak louder than words.

Or, as I wrote in a paper recently, this Pope has revived the importance of symbol.

Isn't that something?
